The paper mache to an extremely long time to dry but I need the entire model to be strong and stable to work on

 Masking tape was useful but the tape itself was still visible

The finish paper mache wasn't neat and it took a long time to dry properly

 

Blu-tack worked better because it's clean and you always correct mistakes in the arrangement if there's any.

Glue didn't help because it saturated the paper and made it hard for the modular pieces to join together to form the ball.

Modular pieces were falling apart and needed something to hold them together
